Grouse hunting
Today Hendrik went hunting with Daddy and Grandpa Bob. He was so excited. He kept talking about "grouse chicken" and "wild chickens". He said he wanted to touch them. Dwayne told him he could touch one if they got one that wasn't too dirty. They were gone about 7 hours. When they got home this evening our little guy came bounding through the door, so anxious to tell me all about grouse hunting. In his 2 1/2 year old way he told me about the grouse and how they had beaks, and mouths, and noses, and two eyes, and feathers and that they were very, very soft.

I find it amazing that something as simple as driving down bush roads looking for birds can keep somebody so young entertained for so long. He did have a nap in his car seat at one point but to be happily looking for grouse for 5 or 6 hours is still pretty impressive in my books. If only I could find something at home that would keep him occupied for that long!!

My husband would take our two older boys deer hunting with him on fall evenings when they were 1 and 3. It was a big deal for them! The one time he actually bagged a deer with them, he put some of the deer blood on their face - they were now men, apparantly!
